The University of Idaho is committed to providing safe and healthy facilities in which to work and learn and to protecting the environment. Current trends in federal and state environmental laws and regulations also reflect increasing concern by our society for protecting the environment through responsible hazardous materials disposal. This commitment to responsible and environmentally correct management of hazardous materials has prompted EHS to develop a comprehensive “有害物质 Management & 处理政策 & 程序(政策)”手册. 这一政策 incorporates federal and state regulations with university procedures and guidelines for the proper storage, 运输, 处理, and disposal of hazardous materials. 这一政策, coupled with training and the hazardous materials disposal program, should ensure that hazardous materials management practices remain safe for university employees and 学生, are in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations, and help protect our environment.
这一政策 also provides guidance, information and instructions to follow in the event of an incident involving the release of hazardous materials at the University of Idaho.
NOTE: Radioactive materials/wastes, 传染性材料/废物, and asbestos containing materials are intentionally excluded from this policy because these materials are addressed in other university policies and procedures. Contact Environmental 健康 and 安全 (EHS) to obtain policy information and/or guidance for the management of materials/wastes not within the scope of this policy.

大学全体教员, staff and 学生 are responsible for complying with the guidelines and procedures of university policy. 具体地说, individuals using hazardous materials must accurately identify and label all materials; accumulate and store materials safely and securely; and request collection of the material by submitting electronic disposal requests to EHS. It is the responsibility of all supervisors and instructors to ensure that employees, 学生, 客人, and visitors are aware of and follow the guidelines and procedures of this policy.
