Graduate 历史 Degrees
Graduate work is offered in all fields of history for which faculty is currently available. Students applying for admission to graduate study in history must be approved by the majority of the history faculty.
Degree Programs
Candidates must fulfill the requirements of the Department of 历史 and of the Graduate College.
Master of 艺术
The Department of 历史 offers both thesis and non-thesis Master's degree options. The work toward an M.A. degree stresses a balance of course work and independent research.
历史 Department Ph.D.
There are two areas of study for the Ph.D. 程序: 历史 and Historical Archaeology. Both 程序s require graduate level coursework leading up to a proposal defense and/or comprehensive exams followed by completion of a dissertation based in original research. While the 历史 程序 requires students to seek a committee chair from the 历史 department, the Historical Archeology 程序 is offered in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Society and Justice and requires students to select an Anthropology faculty as their main advisor.
Graduate Program Requirements
Undergraduate Preparation
The ideal preparation for graduate study in history is a B.A. 或B.S. in history from an accredited institution.
The department, at its discretion, may accept applicants with a B.A. 或B.S. in humanities or social science fields applicable to history (e.g., political science, philosophy, English, anthropology).
Standard Examinations for Admission (M.A. 和Ph值.D.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Applicants whose native language is not English must achieve a minimum score of 575 on the TOEFL to be considered for admission.
